The Winter Ice Cream Social is from noon to 4 p.m., with forecasts calling for temps in the mid 30s.
Leo’s Grill and Malt Shop will be serving ice cream. There will also be free coffee, chili for a nominal fee, and of course, a bonfire. All funds raised from this event benefit the Washington County Historical Society.
The event started back in 1950 when Stillwater businessman Gib Larson of Snowland Foods, along with a few other business people, held the first winter ice cream social at the St. Croix Boom Site.
Even though the temperatures were well below zero more than a thousand people came out and enjoyed the ice cream and the season.
The event was moved to Lowell Park the next year and later it moved to Lily Lake, before heading back to the St. Croix Riverfront.
