For over 40 years the Valley Chamber Chorale has ushered in the holiday season with a truly unique concert. Granted, you can hear many the Christmas concert in a lovely church sanctuary with coffee and cookies afterwards – but it is rare to hear an artistically excellent performance – in a stunningly decorated room – seated at candle-lit tables set for 10 – sipping on wine or sparkling cider and munching gourmet appetizers and desserts!

But this is what you will find at the Washington County Historic Courthouse the weekend of December 11-13 when the Chorale presents four performances of their 41st annual Christmas event.

A book could be written on the history of this event, but in a nutshell, what began as 14 singers hoping for an audience has grown to sold-out performances featuring 48 of the finest singers in the area, instrumentalists to match, a varied and diverse repertoire, and a room filled with magic.

This year’s concerts will be as fresh as ever and feature a newly commissioned work from one of the choral world’s young stars, Kim André Arnesen from Trondheim, Norway. Mr. Arnesen has named this piece “The Christmas Alleluias” and it is written for choir and harp. In rehearsal, singers have found this work to be profoundly beautiful and satisfying. In addition to the commissioned work, the concerts will include traditional carols and classic choral works for the season.

In that this is the Chorale’s final season for founding director, Carol Carver, she has promised to “pull out the stops” to make these Christmas concerts the finest in 41 years. Her recommendation – gather friends and family, settle on a date, contact the VCC via phone at 651-430-0124; or go to their website www.valleychamberchorale.org to reserve tickets for this truly unique valley event.
