Amy Fox, Stillwater Medical Group General Surgeon Recognized as Minnesota Monthly “Top Doc”

Minnesota Monthly recognized Dr. Amy Fox, a general surgeon for Stillwater Medical Group, on their “Best Doctor 2014” list. Dr. Fox was recognized for her outstanding service in breast surgery. “Dr. Fox truly deserved her recognition for her great compassion, bedside manner, professionalism and outstanding clinical care,” stated Dr. Andrew Dorwart. “I am extremely glad that her peers have recognized her as an outstanding physician.”

What you need to know about Brain Injuries

A concussion is an injury to the brain caused by a force being transmitted to the head. This can occur in a direct blow to the head, collision, fall, whiplash injury or violent blow to the body. A concussion causes immediate and usually temporary impairment of brain function, which cannot be seen on an x-ray or scan of the head. Every head injury should be taken seriously and each dealt with appropriately. Symptoms:

Dizziness

Headache

Blurred vision

Dilated pupils

Poor balance

Difficulty speaking

Confusion

Treatment:

Rest (physical and mental)

Avoid any physical activity, use of a computer, reading, text messaging, watching TV and video gaming

Lakeview Hospital Names Theodore Wegleitner New President

Theodore Wegleitner has been named Lakeview Hospital’s new president. Wegleitner, who lives in Hudson, Wis., succeeds Curt Geissler, former President of Lakeview Hospital who retired in July 2014. He is married with three adult children. Wegleitner, known as ‘Ted,’ joined HealthPartners in 1987 and has held senior leadership positions in surgical services, business, education and health promotion. His career includes director of Park Nicollet’s HealthSource, a health promotion program for employers, vice president of Surgical Services at Methodist Hospital and Park Nicollet’s Ambulatory Surgery Center and most recently as president and chief operating officer at TRIA Orthopaedic Center. Love working with Children? Interested in Volunteering?

Lakeview Hospital is now welcoming new volunteers to work with kindergarteners who will be visiting Teddy Bear Clinic over the 2014-15 school year. Volunteers can choose to be a guide who escorts the children to four learning stations within the hospital, a “doctor” who puts bandages on stuffed animals, a snack server, or a presenter who shows the children x-rays and instruments they would see in an emergency room. Kids & Teens in Grief is a free six-week support group for kids and teens (K-12) that have experienced the death of a loved one. The series will be held every Thursday, starting Oct. 2 – Nov. 6, 2014, at Boutwell’s Landing (Town Hall 5600 Norwich Parkway, Oak Park Heights, MN). Sunday, September 7, 2014 1 p.m. – Starting and ending at Pioneer ParkThe Stairs of Stillwater 5K walk brings participants through beautiful downtown Stillwater while providing a challenging walking course of hills and staircases that wind to and from downtown, starting and finishing in Pioneer Park. It is not a race but a great stair climbing challenge with many rewards including beautiful vistas of the St. Croix River valley. This walk is intended for participants ages 12+ who are physically able to handle the challenging 5K terrain. HealthPartners, Park Nicollet and Stillwater Medical Group clinics recognized for improving patient care and outcomes

HealthPartners, Park Nicollet and Stillwater Medical Group clinics have been recognized for delivering optimal care and improving specific patient outcomes by the Minnesota Health Action Group. The clinics were rewarded a total of $138,767 as a part of the Minnesota Bridges to Excellence program and the Minnesota Quality Incentive Payment System. The clinics focused on making improvements in diabetes, vascular and depression care, which are known to be primary drivers of health care costs. The Minnesota Bridges to Excellence program recognized and rewarded 44 HealthPartners, HealthPartners Central Minnesota, Park Nicollet and Stillwater Medical Group clinics for their accomplishments. The Minnesota Bridges to Excellence program, which was established by the Minnesota Health Action Group in 2006, and the State’s Quality Incentive Payment System implemented in 2011, relies on clinical data that is publicly reported to identify clinics that qualify for a reward for meeting or exceeding optimal care standards for a specified percentage of patients with diabetes, vascular disease and depression. In July 2014, Stillwater Medical Group’s urology department relocated from the specialty clinic on 1500 Curve Crest Boulevard to Lakeview Hospital at 921 South Greeley Street, in Stillwater. This newly renovated space has three spacious procedure rooms, a physical therapy room, five exam rooms and two nurses station. Each procedure room as an adjoining bathroom. On Friday, July 11, 2014, Curt Geissler will retire as President of Lakeview Hospital. Geissler joined Lakeview Hospital in July 1991, as Director of Patient Services. When Stillwater Medical Group and Lakeview Hospital joined together in 2004, Geissler became the President of Lakeview Hospital. “Curt will be greatly missed at Lakeview. Lakeview Hospital Recognized Nationally for Sustainability Program

(STILLWATER, June 10, 2014) – HealthPartners has achieved high sustainability honors nationally, receiving a total of seven Environmental Excellence Awards from Practice Greenhealth. Hudson, Lakeview, Regions and Westfields Hospitals met high benchmarks in recycling, mercury reduction, pollution prevention and energy conservation. Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading health care sustainability community that empowers its members to increase their efficiencies and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care. Lakeview Hospital was awarded the 2014 “Greenhealth Partner for Change” Award. This award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs. At a minimum, facilities applying for this Award must be recycling 15 percent of their total waste, have reduced regulated medical waste, are well along the way to mercury elimination, and have developed other successful pollution prevention programs in many different areas. Lakeview Hospital volunteers serve over 16,000 in the past year!

Lakeview Hospital honored its volunteers at a luncheon at Boutwells Landing on May 7, 2014. Over the past year, 203 volunteers contributed 16, 250 hours. Hospital volunteers work in 25 areas, including surgery reception, gift shop, information desks, pharmacy, Teddy Bear Clinic (educational program for kindergarteners), and nursing stations. Ten volunteers have served for 20 years or more: Darlene Berglund, Barb Dahlke, Ruth Guse, Betty Hudacek, Marie Olsen, Janet Roderick, Lorna Montagne, Kay Rosell, Lorna Schrade, and Norma Singer.
