6-Year-Old Girl Dies After Apparent Drowning in Lake Elmo Swimming Pond

A 6-year-old child died after an apparent drowning in Lake Elmo Park Reserve’s swimming beach on Sunday afternoon. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded at 1:17 p.m., Sunday to a report 6-year-old Saint Paul girl who had been pulled from the water and was not breathing. Resuscitation efforts were performed on the victim at the scene. The girl was transported to Regions Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The name of the child is not being released at this time. Southbound Highway 95 Re-opens Following Fatal Motorcyle Crash

Southbound Highway 95 was shut down for a couple of hours Sunday night after a fatal motorcycle crash at the St. Croix River Crossing construction site at Highway 36. Two motorcyclists were riding together on southbound Highway 95 before driving into the St. Croix River Crossing construction zone where the crashes occurred Sunday evening, Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson said. One motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene, Nielson said. The other motorcyclist, Christopher L. Ree, 39, of Blaine, was seriously injured. Continue Reading →

Police Continue Searching for Inmate Who Escaped from Stillwater Prison

Police are searching for an inmate who escaped from the minimum security unit at Stillwater Prison Friday morning. Local law enforcement have set up a perimeter and are searching for the man. According to Bayport Police:

“Approximately 30 minutes ago (10:30 a.m.), DOC offender Patrick James Buswell walked away from the minimum security portion of the Stillwater Prison. Buswell is described at 5′ 6″, white male, brown hair/eyes and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Stillwater Schools Closed on Tuesday

Stillwater Area Public Schools will be closed once again on Tuesday due to dangerous winter weather. According to Stillwater Area Public Schools:

All Stillwater Area Public Schools will be closed again on Tuesday, Jan. 28 due to the extremely cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills. All of our schools will be closed and daytime activities canceled including Adventure Club and early childhood programs. Stillwater Schools Closed on Monday Due to Dangerous Wind Chills

Stillwater Area Public Schools announces:

Due to the extremely cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills, all Stillwater Area Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 27. All of our schools will be closed and activities canceled including Adventure Club, early childhood programs and Community Education classes. These are very difficult decisions to make, as our desire is to keep students in school and learning. Breaking: New Summer Festival Will Be Named Stillwater Log Jam


The Locals new summer festival will be called Stillwater Log Jam. Conversations, rumors and opinions on the name have been swirling since the announcement of the return of the historic celebrations. This year in particular is a reason to celebrate as it is the 80th Anniversary of Lumberjack Days – the celebration. The name “Lumberjack Days” is trademarked with the former non-profit organization associated with the celebrations in recent years. The Locals made the attempt to acquire use of the name “Lumberjack Days” for the 2014 event, but an agreement with the former non-profit was unable to be reached. Continue Reading →
