It has been well-documented that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth experience higher rates of multiple health risks. However, despite that risk, most LGBTQ youth are doing well. Understanding the strengths, supports, and resources that promote thriving among LGBTQ youth is critical. This talk will discuss new research from Project RESPEQT focused on the the aspects of schools and communities that LGBTQ youth find most supportive and welcoming. Rich Sommer, who plays Harry Crane on AMC’s “Mad Men,” will headline two fundraising events for the Stillwater Public Library Foundation on May 9 at the Lowell Inn in Stillwater. The TV drama series, which concludes its award-winning seven-season run on May 17, has been widely publicized as the end of an era for viewers and the experience of a lifetime for its cast and crew. Friends and fans will Mix & Mingle with Rich Sommer on May 9 in the Matterhorn Room from 5-7 p.m. and/or enjoy dinner and program Starring Rich Sommer from 7-10 p.m. in the Banquet Center. The Stillwater Public Library will host one of thousands of events worldwide on Saturday to celebrate tabletop gaming. International TableTop Day began three years ago as a way to bring the world together for one day to celebrate tabletop gaming together. Last year, TableTop Day was celebrated in 80 countries across all 7 continents and had more than 3,000 events in all. The Stillwater Public Library will host a family-friendly board game event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 11. The second annual Beer for Books fundraiser benefitting the Stillwater Public Library Foundation is happening Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Lift Bridge Brewing Company. The fundraiser is happening from 6-9 p.m. in the Lift Bridge taproom. The library foundation receives $1 for every pint sold during the evening. Last year’s event was a huge success, and the folks at Lift Bridge said it was one of — if not the — most popular event in their Townie Tuesday fundraising series, said Mike Keliher, president of the Stillwater Public Library Board o Trustees. This week’s Townie Tuesday event at the Lift Bridge brewery will benefit the Stillwater Public Library Foundation. For every drink purchased at the brewery from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, $1 will go to the Stillwater Public Library Foundation, which directly supports the Stillwater Public Library with money to buy more materials, provide more services and host more programming. Thrift Store Sonata is playing, and there will be food by QuickFire Pizza and Noodles & Company.
