Washington County Historic Courthouse’s ‘Nooks and Crannies Tour’ is Oct. 4

The Washington County Historic Courthouse’s annual “Nooks and Crannies Tour” is upon us. Staff and volunteers will lead tours of areas in the Historic Courthouse that are typically closed to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4. The tour will include the sheriff’s residence, basement, archives, the original 1870 jail and the dome on top of the building. Groups of 10 will leave the main hallway at approximately 15-minute intervals and the tours take about an hour. Continue Reading →

Police Investigate String of Vandalism in Stillwater’s South Hill Neighborhood

Police are looking for vandals who have damaged several vehicles, a boat, trailer and a home this week in Stillwater’s South Hill neighborhood. Police believe the vandalism occurred during the late-night hours of Aug. 11, into the early-morning hours of Aug. 12. Here’s a listing of criminal damage to property incidents reported to police so far:

(Videos) Stillwater’s South Hill Walking Tour: The Chestnut Hill Loop

The city of Stillwater has posted the 18-part video series about the storied South Hill on YouTube. The Heritage Preservation Commission commissioned Dan Hoisington to create the self-guided walking tour of prominent South Hill homes and buildings. Download the South Hill Walking Tour videos. The South Hill tour is made up of two loops — the Pine Street and Chestnut Hill loops — each completed in about an hour. Here is the video tour of the Chestnut Hill loop:
