Stillwater Area Public Schools is looking for your feedback about starting school before Labor Day.
Historically, Stillwater has started school after Labor Day weekend. But last year the Calendar Commission recommended the school year start earlier, so school would end the first week of June.
The commission also recommended a pre-Labor Day start of Monday, Aug. 29 for the 2016-17 school year, when Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 5.
“Many construction projects will be taking place over the next two summers as we prepare for grade configuration changes and work to improve our facilities,” the calendar survey reads. “An earlier start to the school year next fall has been proposed to give more time for us to finish those projects during the summer of 2017.”
Your feedback about the pre-Labor Day start will be considered as Stillwater Area Public Schools reviews the proposed 2016-2017 school calendar for final approval later this winter.
Under the current calendar draft, the 2016-17 school year would end on June 1, with Winter Break happening Dec. 23 – Jan. 2 and Spring Break set for March 20-24.
