Stillwater Police Investigate Theft of Christmas Tree from Officer Josh Lynaugh’s Gravesite

Stillwater police are investigating the theft of a Christmas tree with blue LED lights that was stolen from the gravesite of St. Paul police officer Josh Lynaugh.

Lynaugh’s family has asked police for extra patrol inside Fairview Cemetery to deter future thefts. The value of the tree and lights is $150.

The Lynaughs believe the theft happened after 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 and before 1 p.m. Nov. 21, according to police reports.

Timothy Lynaugh told police people are at Josh’s gravesite on a daily basis, and it is all shoveled and cleared out from the snow, the report states. Lynaugh told police he plans to replace the tree and lights, and asked for additional patrol during the nighttime hours.

Lynaugh told police he is looking into potentially placing a trail camera in the area to deter any future thefts.

Lynaugh, 30, died Feb. 16, 2013, of a heart attack. Lynaugh died in the line of duty. He collapsed after chasing a suspect who ran from police.

Anyone who has information about the theft is asked to call the Stillwater Police Department’s tip line at 651-351-4945.
