Stillwater HPC Debuts South Hill Walking Tour Thursday, Dec. 4

The Heritage Preservation Commission will screen an 18-part video series about Stillwater’s storied South Hill neighborhood this week at the Stillwater Public Library.

The two-hour event begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at the library.

Following the video debut, the self-guided walking tour will be available on Youtube and for download on mobile devices. This is the second in a series of podcast tours the Stillwater HPC has developed in the past two years.

Dan Hoisington researched, collected photos and created a series of video podcasts of prominent homes and various buildings on the South Hill.

The $16,000 podcast was partially funded through by the National Parks Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, through the State Historic Preservation Office’s Certified Local Government Grant program, the Pioneer Press reports. The city of Stillwater paid $5,250 and  donated $1,850 in time and materials.

The HPC’s first downtown walking tour won the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions’ 2014 Commissioner Excellence Award.
