Stillwater Baseball Stars of the Week Awards: Week of May 21

Every week this baseball season, we will announce Stillwater Area Baseball Weekly Stars here on Stillwater Current.

Here’s our weekly award winners for the week of May 21.

Posch Builders recognizes Gray Fleming, 10A assistant coach, as the Coach of the Week. Gray took over head coaching duties for the tournament this weekend.

“Gray is a dedicated coach with such a positive attitude that helped keep the boys engaged and into the game despite the bad weather. Gray was instilling good Pony baseball with strong defense, hitting it down and hard and being aggressive on the bases. Many parents noticed his attitude and efforts and made comments about his ability to connect with the boys and the positive approach.”

Austin Buck, Mason Buck, Ben Jackels, Tanner Voight, Charlie Mazanec, Jacob Carlson and Chris Longway win the Bayport Printing House Sportsmanship Stars of the Week for their day-long effort Sunday volunteering for field duty at the St. Croix Classic hosted by Stillwater Area Baseball after their own tournament was rained out. Great job boys!

Jakob Flaten pitched two key innings in relief in a win over Woodbury last week to earn the Pitcher of the Week honors.

Sam Anderson is the Dave’s Sport Shop’s Hitter of the Week. Sam went 7 for 14 with 5 doubles, a HR and 9 RBI. What a week!

The Stillwater Motors Player of the Week is Ryan Smithberg, who made a long throw from centerfield to first base to record the rare 8-3 putout, in the bottom of the 7th inning to preserve a victory

Kelley and Jerry Brenden are this week’s Stillwater Current Volunteers of the Week. They worked all day, all three days of the St. Croix Classic, dealing with all the challenges that rain brings a baseball tournament. They played a major role in the positive reviews we received from other teams for how the tournament ran this weekend.

Jacob Algie umped seven days in a row last week, including this weekend’s tournament and is Stillwater Area Baseball’s Umpire of the Week.

Coaches, parents and fans are encouraged to nominate players, umpires, coaches and volunteers all week long.

We encourage everyone to support these sponsors out of appreciation for their commitment to the community.
