Stillwater Area Foundation’s ‘Great Idea’ Challenge Launches Jan. 1

Put on your thinking caps, the Stillwater Area Foundation is about to launch its 4th Annual Great Idea Competition.

The goal of the competition is to inspire and develop creative ideas to address community needs and improve the quality of life for residents of the Stillwater Area — including Lake Elmo, Bayport, Oak Park Heights, Grant, Bay Town Township, Marine on St. Croix and West Lakeland Township.

The winning idea will receive a $10,000 award grant that could help them bring their innovative “Great Idea” to life.

Last year’s Great Idea award went to the Pollinator Friendly Alliance to educate the community about the plight of our pollinators and to take action to increase healthy habitats.

The Foundation is looking for ideas that address a wide range of community needs.

The winning Great Idea will:

  • Be innovative
  • Enhance quality of life
  • Strengthen community connections
  • Enhance community pride

And it may:

  • Address an environmental concern
  • Make life easier or more pleasant for local residents
  • Address needs of underserved community members
  • Beautify streetscapes
  • Attract visitors

The Great Idea Challenge will open on Jan. 1, 2016 on the Stillwater Area Foundation website.

Past award winners include the Friends of Stillwater Area Dog Park and the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce Medallion Program.
