Ten public art installations will dot the landscape of downtown Stillwater as part of the River City Sculpture Tour.

In all, 18 original sculptures will be displayed as part of the public art exhibit along the St. Croix River in Stillwater, Hastings and Prescott.

“Thatsalottabull,” a giant rusted steel moose, was installed last Friday near the Lift Bridge. Stillwater is host to 10 original, outdoor sculptures that will be on display from now until next April.

The River City Sculpture Tour is a free ongoing exhibit of public art.

The pedestal sites of the sculptures are intended to be permanent, tour founder Julie Pangallo said. The artwork will change every spring.

Pangallo says she intends to expand the tour in the future. Her goal is to have original sculptures from St.Croix Falls to LaCrosse, so people can spend a fun weekend enjoying art on the river.

Osceola, Marine on St. Croix, Red Wing and LaCrosse have expressed an interest in joining the program.

“There are wonderful sculpture tours around the country,”Pangallo said. “As far as I know, this is the only multi-city tour. It’s a great way to promote the artists of our region, as well as drive tourism and commerce.

“One of the things I’m most excited about is the artists on this tour. This first year, it’s 100 percent Minnesota and Wisconsin artists. We have fabulous talent in our region, and I’m excited to promote that.”
