Photos: Ponies Spoil White Bear Lake’s Homecoming, Improve to 5-0

The Ponies spoiled White Bear Lake’s Homecoming last week with a 35-7 win in the state’s oldest rivalry.

Stillwater improved to 5-0 on the season, and moved up to No. 6 in the AP’s football rankings. The Ponies are keeping pace with Mounds View (5-0) and East Ridge (5-0) at the top of the Suburban East Conference.

The Ponies take on Cretin Derham-Hall Friday night for Homecoming. Stillwater ends the regular season by traveling to Woodbury on Friday, Oct. 10 and hosting Mounds View on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The defense continues to be impressive. Defensive back Joey Freichels had 2 interceptions, including one that he returned 43 yards for a touchdown. Defensive Lineman Ryan Floen and LB Andrew Lammers caused all sorts of trouble for the Bear’s quarterback and WR Brooks Carroll got the Ponies rolling with a 72 yard punt return for a touchdown.

The offense centered around senior running back Zach Knox, who rushed for 194 yards and 2 TDs. Wide receiver Charlie Haumersen had a 26 yard TD catch, while kicker Robbie Enright was perfect on PATs with 5 extra points.
