The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the grand opening of ModernRoots, a new retailer on North Main Street in downtown Stillwater.

ModernRoots offers natural soaps, and body care products created by owner Meg DiMercurio.

“I grow, harvest and create my products based on my own model that is naturally free of parabens, sulfates, corn, soy and canola,”DiMercurio said. “Everything is created by hand. I grow about 60% of the ingredients; foraging for 10% of that and growing 40% of my own herbs for steam distillation (essential oils).”

ModernRoots began with Meg attending farmer’s markets and selling online in 2011.

She opened her first store in Buffalo, MN in 2014 and within a few years had such a strong demand, she moved to a larger location in Buffalo.

DiMercurio said she has been shipping orders every other week from her Buffalo store to customers in the Stillwater area.

After being asked over the years to start a store in the area, she finally has and is excited to expand and create products out of Stillwater. Since opening, she has already done just that with her soap “Mermaids of the St. Croix,” which utilizes sand from the shores of the St. Croix River.

ModernRoots is located at 126 North Main Street in downtown Stillwater.

Business hours are Wednesday through Friday 10-6, and weekends 10-7.
