Updated at 11:24 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12:
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that Joel Costa’s body was found with his vehicle at about 7 p.m., Sunday on a rural road north of Duluth.
The cause of death is under investigation. Foul play is not suspected, according to the sheriff’s office.
Joel Costa, 32, was a member of the Minnesota National Guard. He was reported missing after he did not report for drill with the National Guard on Saturday morning. He was last seen in Superior, Wisc. Friday night.
If you have friends of family in the Duluth area, please share this information from Joel’s mother, Kelly Costa-Daly:
“Please help us. My son Joel Costa is missing. He was last seen last night around 10pm at The Reef Bar where he played trivia as he usually does on Friday nights.
He was excited because he had just gotten a new job after an interview at 6:30 p.m. at Dublins Bar in Duluth . He was asked by friends to attend a party and declined because he had drill at 0430. He was in good spirits and texted a friend about the new John Wick movie at 11 pm and Joel never responded back to the text and never made it home.
It is coming up on 24 hours and UMD Police, St.Louis Cty Sherrif’s Dept, and Duluth and Superior Police Depts and the US Army are out looking for him…
We are asking everyone , even if you have a small detail that you may not think is important to let us know.“
Joel’s mother Kelly is well known in Stillwater, and is owner of Kids Oasis and Gammy and Gumpy’s toy stop in downtown Stillwater. Please do what you can to help out.
