Firefighters battled flames and subzero temperatures this afternoon a house fire in Baytown Township.
Firefighters were called to a home Crews were called to a home in the 13000 block of 48th Street at 12:38 p.m., Bayport Fire Chief Allen Eisinger said, after someone noticed heavy smoke coming from a garage.
When firefighters arrived, the garage was engulfed in fire, and flames were spreading to the home.
No injuries have been reported and no one was home at the time of the fire, Eisinger said. The home is a total loss.
The blaze is under investigation.
The Bayport Fire Department had mutual Aid from Lake Elmo, Stillwater, Lower St. Croix Valley, Woodbury, Hudson and Mahtomedi fire departments.
“The cold was hard on firefighters and equipment,”Eisinger said. “Hoses were freezing even when left open a little to try to keep them flowing during down time. Extra resources brought in two ambulances, one for firefighter health and one for warming firefighters.”
An extra engine was brought to Bayport to standby for additional calls while crews battled the blaze.
